10/31/05 Black-tail gull in Vermont!

Happy Halloween!

We thought we would dedicate this newsletter to the Black-Tail Gull who is still visiting Charlotte Vermnont. Pete went up yesterday to see him again and took some great pictures. He is quite a famous little guy. There were people there from all over the place including Canada and as far south as Virginia. Evidently this little Asian Gull has only been sighted a few times in the United States so he is raising quite a stir up here in Vermont. He is a very pretty gull, with the most amazing gray eyes, I hope you get to see how beautiful they are in the pictures. They are almost haunting, when he looks at you he really looks at you and almost through you. I have to say, not being a life lister type of birder, this guy is really neat and it was an honor to meet him.

It's thing like this little guy that inspire the entire Northwood's Collection, how lucky are we to get to see such an incredible bird, and all the other incredible creatures of our Vermont home!

Happy Birding,

Carol & Pete

Woodpecker update 10-20-05

Well here it is, the latest and greatest in the Northwood's Jewelry Collection! This Ivory-billed woodpecker pendant is named after the solitary woodpecker because as far as anyone knows, only one has been found.

We are celebrating all woodpeckers this issue however. We were fortunate to come upon a flock of Flickers the other day. They were feeding in a field and let us get extremely close to get some great pictures. Turns out they were eating grubs and I suspect ants, though I didn't get that close. It was great fun to see, they are a beautiful bird.

We also have a resident yellow bellied sapsucker here at Peter Manship Designs. He was busy on our barn for the spring, letting everyone know this was his territory. Lateley however he has been outside our kitchen window madly pecking little holes in a tree. It's a tree shared however by the littlest of the woodpecker family, the Downy Woodpecker. It's fun to watch them all, we hope you enjoy the pictures.

Peace from the Great Northwood's!

Ivory-Billed Woodpecker

Hi Everyone,

This is a first in a series of news blasts about our new and exciting jewelry pieces on the site. Our first and most noteable is the sterling silver Ivory-Bill Woodpecker Pendant. Of course it can also be a Pileated Woodpecker , for those of us who are fans of these woodpeckers. Either way, what a story, coming back from extinction, what a magic story. We of course had to have something to pay tribute to this amazing bird, and what a pendant Pete created! I have to admitt that I have always been the worlds biggest Pileated Woodpecker fan, so when his cousing the Ivory-Bill was spotted I was doubly thrilled. We hope you like it and maybe it will bring some special magic into your life when you wear it. I have had mine on since we got it!!

If you want to follow the ongoing search and research, the most interesting site we've found is Cornell'sOrnithology site http://www.birds.cornell.edu/ where you can see all the newest information and follow the story.

All the best,
Carol & Pete
